Dawn of Eden (Book 0.5) – Julie Kagawa

Title – Dawn of Eden
Author – Julie Kagawa
Series: Blood of Eden
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

If you follow my blog (maybe), you’ll know that I LOVE Julie Kagawa’s Blood of Eden series. I gobbled that bad boy up in days and when I finished The Forever Song, I cried because the emotional whirlwind of plague, friendship and general badass-ery was over.

Until.

UNTIL I FOUND OUT ABOUT DAWN OF EDEN! (Apparently this was released in 2013 and it’s just popped up in my kindle store. I feel a bit daft for not knowing about it sooner but that’s okay).

It’s not much. Just a little teaser into the world before, into a world that is only beginning to learn the brutality of the Red Lung virus. But it’s enough for me.

A Monster Calls – Patrick Ness

Title – A Monster Calls
Author – Patrick Ness
Series: N/A
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

I am so late to the party with this one. It’s a book that has been sitting on my bookcase for a long time and I’ve just never gotten time to read (especially now with a baby). But in this crazy world I managed to find an afternoon to do my own thing and I picked up this book.

It was beautiful. It was unexpected. It was utterly heart wrenching.

Patrick Ness is a superb author. He was asked to write finish writing this for Siobhan Dowd, an author who sadly died from breast cancer. I don’t know what I expected from this book but I’m glad I read it.

Day 28 – The Best Book You’ve Read this Month

So I’m getting myself sorted to start reviewing some fairytale retellings in August after having read A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer. I honestly thought that was going to be my favourite read for this month but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by another so that one has definitely stolen the spot.

The best book I’ve read this month is The Beast’s Heart by Leife Shallcross.

Day 26 – A Book Turned Movie and Completely Desecrated

I knew as soon as I saw this prompt what I was going to choose for this prompt.

Usually I enjoy adaptations. I mean, the book is usually still better but it’s aways nice to see your favourite works of fiction take flesh, so long as the creators actually follow the book.

The movie I had in mind, the book turned movie that was completely desecrated was City of Bones, first book in the Mortal Instruments series, by Cassandra Clare.

Day 24 – A Book You’ve Wanted to Read for a Long Time But Haven’t

My TBR pile is the length of my arm. Longer. No, really it’s now just turned into a TBR bookcase. It’s getting ridiculous. I’ve actually set myself a resolution for this year of not buying books that I’m not going to read immediately. It’s been going somewhat successfully (kind of).

But one that I’ve wanted to read for a long time (about 3 years now) is actually the second book to a series. I loved the first book so much because it was something so unique for me.

A book that I’ve wanted to read for a long time but haven’t is Hollow City by Ransom Riggs, book two in Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children series.
