Summer Blog Challenge – Day 5

Day 5 -Favourite book cover

I was just going to choose 1 cover for this but I thought, to keep the post a little longer, that I would choose 3. How are you just supposed to pick one? But I will point out which is my favourite of the 3 just to stay to the prompt.

I love to appreciate a pretty book cover.

Pan’s Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro & Cornelia Funke

Of course, this was going to make the cut. I love the covers for this new release (although I do like the American edition just a tiny bit better). The thing I love about this cover other than the art style is that it is actually, I suppose a movie cover but you’d never really think it was because it’s not been done in that horrible “we’ve just taken a movie still and slapped it on the cover” type of movie cover. This is actually very beautifully done and is perfect for the cover of such a dark fairytale retelling.

The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo

This is a collection of short stories taken from the Grishaverse by Leigh Bardugo. Isn’t it beautiful? I don’t know if I’m drawn to it because of the blue embroidery or the design or just all of it but I really love it. However, I do hate the size of the book because it’s weirdly big and doesn’t fit with any other books. But let that not discourage us.

Wicked & Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire

And finally. I picked this up in a Barnes & Nobles in Boston a few years back (my first time a B&N, I went a little mad. Whoops). It’s one of the leatherbound editions that they love doing. I have a few of those editions for some of the classics but this one is by far my favourite. It’s gorgeous, with gold edged pages and a little green ribbon. It’s all green and black and metallic and pretty. I love Wicked.

Some honourable mentions would be;

  • The hardback editions of A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket
  • A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
  • The Copper Cat Trilogy by Jen Williams

And out of these three that I have chosen, my favourite is… The Language of Thorns!

Until tomorrow.
