Audible – It’s growing on me

Hey guys,

My love for Audible library seems to grow exponentially with each passing month and each new credit. I don’t tend to find myself with much free time these days for reading, but the opportunity often arises where I can pull on a pair of headphones and stick on an audiobook while I’m doing something constructive.

Audible (and most audiobook providers) fit with my type of lifestyle, and while they will never replace the satisfaction of a good old paperback, they offer the chance to escape to the worlds and adventures and characters we’ve grown to love so much. Life is getting rather noisy so finding an hour or so here and there to escape makes all the difference to my sanity and mental well-being.

Audiobooks aren’t always for everyone, but sometimes it’s possible to find one that even the most stubborn of readers can enjoy. My fiance has been enjoying ‘Ignition! An Informal History of Liquid Rocket Propellants‘ (which says a great deal about his prefered type of reading material!) and for someone who doesn’t take much time to read it is refreshing to see him enjoying it so much. It goes to show that there is most likely something we can all enjoy there somewhere.

My biggest criticism with audiobooks, on the whole, is the accents of some of the books. Some of the voice actors used for the books are nothing short of annoying. I usually find myself checking the samples of books to here the narrator before purchasing the books just to determine if I could manage to listen to their voice for a solid 10+ hours. The struggle can sometimes be very real. However, on the other hand, Stephen Fry narrating books is the best thing since Tom Hiddleston narrating The Red Necklace by Sally Gardener. If you haven’t heard any of The Red Necklace audiobook, go look it up. It is brilliant, Tom Hiddleston really makes it memorable.

My recent listens have been Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (which was recently made into the movie Love, Simon) and I’m currently listening to Leah on the Offbeat which is the follow-on book from Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda. They have both been excellent books which I would whole-heartedly recommend to anyone interested in YA type of book. You feel the character, and hearing the thoughts of the characters makes it so much easier to immerse yourself in the story. The story and the characters are so relatable in so many ways that it is easy to see yourself in a lot of the situations and find the parallels to your own life and friendships. Take a listen or grab the books for yourself and let me know what you think.

The list continues to grow, and with 2 credits left to spend, I’m looking for some recommendations. So leave any recommendations in the comments below. I’m looking for a fresh new story!

Until next time!
